Been watching the flooding around the Thames and elsewhere quite closely this week, and made the decision to take the alternative route suggested by YH Streatley.  While I had quite fancied a short stroll along the Thames path between Wallingford and Goring the conditions underfoot, if even passable, are likely to be pretty horrendous, so a higher level route is called for.

My other eye has been on the long range forecasts, which have been swinging between 'not too good' to 'pretty awful', but with a few days to go they seem to be moving in my favour, with the only really wet day being forecast as Monday, my third day and only 13 miles.  It's also the day I reach Streatley, adding to my decision to omit the Thames path!

Am out tonight on our monthly Search and Rescue training evening, so will be sorting out kit and packing my rucksack tomorrow, in readiness for the train trip to Tring on Saturday.  Fingers crossed that the train I want actually runs, as the heavy rains seem to be slowly grinding the rail network to a halt!
